A Quick POV about the Iranian Election
"How did the unrest after the Iranian elections come about? It was because online warfare launched by America, via YouTube video and Twitter micro-blogging, spread rumors, created splits, stirred up and sowed discord." -People’s Daily, the Communist Party’s official newspaper, asked in a Jan. 24 editorial. (I learned this via NYT)
Here in China I believe this is true. Perhaps this is because I was in China during the Iran election, and the Chinese propaganda machine took me and brainwashed me. But more likely it was because of what I saw on Twitter during this time period. Most of my American friends had an Iranian flag on their Twitter profile image. I didn't know any fact of what was happening, but I did notice Americans took a great interest in what was going on.
I don't think its right for the Chinese government to assume that the American government intervened intentionally. In America the people make up the government, and the people sure made their opinions heard on Twitter. From my perspective here in China it sure looked like Americans did stir up and sowed discord; Which isn't something bad to do in America, its just not something the Chinese allow, Culturally speaking and politically speaking.
