Mac App Buying Spree
So I just went on a Mac Application Buying spree. This is rare for me because I usually think of reasons not to buy things. But Macheist made it really easy to impulsively buy a few apps that I felt would be very useful to me in the coming weeks.
MachHeist has some great deals going on and with only a few hours left on the deals I don't think I'm doing them enough help publicizing their sale but thats not my job so whatever. So now onto the Apps I bought from Macheist in order of least interesting to most awesome!
Airburst Extreme I had to install Rosetta to get this working because its an old game, but as casual games go its not bad. Just another thing for me to learn from.
MacJournal this has something to do with keeping a diary/Journal on a Mac and then easily publishing to the internet, your mobileMe account etc. I haven't tested it yet.
Tales of Monkey Island An adventure game! I never really played adventure games before but now that I'm employed as a game developer I figure playing this will help my career, even if I do find it boring.
RipIt DVD ripping software, Very useful just not for me
Burning Monkey Solitaire No idea about this but since I make games, and solitaire is a well known computer game it will be interesting to see what these game designers did to give solitaire a twist.
Tracks lets you play your music library and browse the iTunes Music Store right from your menubar. We will see if it is useful to my workflow, but I doubt it'll be much of a difference.
RapidWeaver This seems like Dreamweaver but with an updated feature set for the Post web 2.0 internet. I hope its useful, but I'm to use to TextMate + Firefox for my web development.
Tweetie A Twitter Client for Mac. Macheist has promised Tweetie 2 which is coming out in a month to also be part of this deal. I love Tweetie 2 for the iPhone, its been the best Social App I've purchased by far; So I can't wait to see the new Tweetie 2 on Mac. However since I already use Tweetie 1 (although ad supported) This isn't a notable upgrade to me. Hopefully I'll be happily suprised in a month
CoverScout Okay this may just be cool to me but I think this is one of the best Apps in the bundle. I hate not having Covers to my albums in iTunes. Apple tries to get you the right covers but doesn't do a great job of it. Here is where cover scout comes in, and now my iTunes coverflow looks beautiful!
Clips If you copy paste a lot this can save you a lot of time. Also great for us software writers in case we need to cache some data from different places
Flow is a FTP client with awesome OSX integration. I don't like cyberduck's UI and Flow blew me away with usability.
But theres More!
I also bought two new Games from Direct2Drive. Briad and Dragon Age Origins.
Briad is a critically acclaimed platformer with time travel elements. A good friend of mine and game designer mentor recommended that I play it many months ago. Now that I'm not working with him I figured I'd heed his advise. The funny thing about Briad is how much it steals from Mario. I saw my friend playing it and although the main character looks nothing like the italian plumber, most of the NPCs and obstacles are inspired from Mario.
Dragon Age Origins is an RPG from Bioware. I blindly buy anything from Bioware because all of their stuff has been awesome to me. They know how to interactively tell a story. I want to surpass them one day.
